Travel to the Remote Areas of Shaba National Reserve

Moving up further northward from Meru National Park, we come to a small cluster of national reserves that includes Shaba National Reserve.

Shaba is smaller than neighbouring Samburu. Go here more for the scenery and for relaxation - it is very tranquil, has some spectacular views, is not crowded - which we really like - and still offers occasional sightings of wildlife, including locally resident Grevy's Zebra and Reticulated Giraffe. In contrast to some other parts of Kenya and the Ma'asai Mara it is notably drier, with an almost desert-like landscape, and as such it makes a good addition to other destinations in Kenya, adding something different to your journey.

HOW'S THE CLIMATE?

Since this central part of Kenya is very close to and slightly north of the equator it gets a bit hotter here than it does in the southern parks, such as the Ma'asai Mara, so be aware of this, especially during the warmer months.
