LUXURY LODGES IN THE SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
The South Luangwa National Park is situated around the fertile river basin area of the meandering Luangwa River in central Zambia. This river with its oxbow lakes forms the lifeblood of the Park; bringing life to its vast landscape and its inhabitants, and the South Luangwa Park is widely accepted to be the best national Park in Zambia.
The easiest access to the park is via its main airstrip, which is located in the central region of the park. The most reliable game viewing in the park is generally to be found in its central area, although this area also draws the most visitors. Moving northward form there into the northern region things do get somewhat quieter, and this northern region is home to most of the higher quality camps and lodges. The southern region of South Luangwa also sees less traffic than the central area, and is also home to a few of the small, high-quality camps.
Seasonal changes are very pronounced in South Luangwa: The winters, from May through to October are clear, cool and very dry. November then sees the start of the Rainy season, when the leaves start to turn green and the landscape changes from a dry and somewhat bleak to green and lush, which in turn also attracts over 400 species of migrant birds to the area. Some camps in South Luangwa are only open during the drier winter season and cannot be visited during the summer, whilst others are open and accessible all year.
