LUXURY SAFARIS TO RUAHA NATIONAL PARK
Head into the vast wilderness of Tanzania’s largest National Park and discover the superb wildlife and baobab studded landscape of Ruaha - the ‘other park’ on the southern safari circuit. Watch huge herds of elephant and buffalo parade through the wild landscape and maybe witness a thrilling predator-prey encounter, as there from healthy lion, leopard and cheetah populations in the area.
The rewards of travelling to this relatively inaccessible park are fewer tourists and a more authentic safari experience away from the crowds of Selous Game Reserve. Ruaha is more wild and remote than its southern neighbour, Selous and ultimately has better wildlife concentrations and viewing opportunities- although regrettably without boating options.
THE BEST TIME TO VISIT RUAHA NATIONAL PARK
Because of Ruaha National Park’s remote location, there is little chance you will see other game vehicles during your stay. The park is a classic dry season park and game viewing is best from July to October when water becomes scarce and animals congregate at waterholes. Travelling out of season will guarantee you don’t see other tourists and the birding is excellent from December to March.
For the quintessential experience of Ruaha National Park we like Kigelia Ruaha, leading the way in rustic luxury accommodation. Whilst in the region we can also recommend Kwihala for a more affordable but still luxurious option.
