WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT IT:

San Camp runs almost entirely on solar energy, and is arguably one of the most romantic safari settings in Botswana, where beautiful white tents surrounded by desert palms on the border of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans set the scene.

Expert field-guiding and incredibly friendly habituated meerkats present a unique experience to guests. Old-world safari charm offers superb, original cuisine and a unique opportunity to experience the strange unspoiled landscape.

Facilities at San Camp include a tent that contains a small natural history museum and library, a tea tent spread with cushions providing a sheltering sanctuary and offering decadent teas, while the tented yoga pavilion offers a relaxation space.

MY ACCOMMODATION:

San Camp has 6 classically designed tents. The camp can accommodate up to 12 guests.

EXTRA FACILITIES:

A mess tent containing a small natural history museum, a library, a tea tent, a tented yoga pavilion, a central dining area, and private verandahs.

WHAT I CAN TO DO THERE:

Daily game drives, interaction with meerkats, learning about the traditional culture of the Botswana people by visiting a remote cattle post. Visits to Chapman’s Baobab - which is known to be one of the largest trees in Africa.

Explore the beautiful, untouched Magadikgadi Pans as many of the earliest travellers and hunters- on horseback! The vast open areas allows for an incredible and exciting riding experience. There are different itineraries depending on the season.

Kubu Island Quad Bike Safari

Embark on an adventurous quad biking journey across the vast expanse of a Botswana saltpan.

One will set off early in the morning, in convoy, to make the day long journey to Kubu Island - A 2.7 billion year old granite fist that rises surprisingly out of the vast and bare salt pan of Sowa Pan. The area has copious amounts of fascinating detail, such as stonewalls and Bushmen beads, in amongst the vast expanses of open land.

You will then sleep out under the stars and amongst the boulders and baobabs of Kubu Island for 2 nights. This creates a truly unique experience - one that we think is one of the not-to-be-missed highlights of Southern Africa.
