WHAT WE LIKE ABOUT IT:

The luxurious Abu Camp is found in an ancient 400 000 acre forest overlooking a lagoon. In a private concession toward the western side of the Okavango Delta, it is made up of extraordinary luxurious tents - each architecturaly designed and sumptuously furnished to the highest standard.

The lodge places a strong emphasis on elephants and elephant conservation, and offers the unique experience of a real elephant back outing. There is also other game in the area with lion being the leading predator.

Although lavish, we highly recommend Abu. It is luxurious with a high standard of facilities, activities and service and for these reasons it is always well-received by guests.

A night spent in their “star bed”, overlooking the Elephant boma will be one to remember. Abu Camp sits firmly within our top 10 picks of camps in the Okavango Delta.

EXTRA FACILITIES:

The camp has a pool, a gym, and a well-stocked library. In-room spa treatments are available.

WHAT I CAN TO DO THERE:

Activities are focused around elephants, with Abu offering a unique elephant backed experience. Day and night game drives, mokoro trips, sleeping out on the star platform are also offered. Fishing on a catch-and release basis is offered all year except during January and February. Helicopter trips can also be arranged from Abu Camp.

TRAVELLING WITH A FAMILY?

Children 6 years and older are welcome at Abu Camp.

Elephant Back Safari

Experience a whole new type of walk, seeing the Okavango from the back of an elephant. Your Elephant keeper will guide you through the walk, teaching you about the herd, their personalities and their lifestyle as you wind your way around the breathtaking landscape.

The herd at Abu Camp currently comprises seven elephants: Cathy, Shireni, Kitimetse, Abu, Lorato, Paseka and Warona. Guests ride two at a time on Cathy, Shireni and Kitimetse, allowing for six guests to ride simultaneously.

Star Bed Sleep Out

Allow the contented rumblings and low snores of the Abu elephant heard to lull you to sleep and give you a unique sensory experience, by spending a night sleeping out under the stars in Abu Camp's Star Bed.

The Star Bed is on a raised platform above the elephant boma, allowing you to experience both the expanse of the Okavango night sky and the joys of the elephant below together, and a night's sleep unlike any other you've had.
